Samosa Wala - Taste The Tradition
Samosa Wala, located in Hayman’s Market on the beautiful island of Barbados, is hands-down one of the best street food options in the country. Proprietor and two-time entrepreneur Zuhair Jada recognised a hole in the island’s food market and assembled a stellar representation of Indo-Caribbean food and culture.

Interview
What was the decision process behind the name?
‘Samosa Wala’ came naturally. It embodies what we stand for; simplicity, quality and tradition. ‘Wala’ in India is a term used to refer to a group who specialises in a particular craft, in a humble yet proud way. We are the guys to do this. I wanted the name to honour my Indian roots and the food to honour my Indo-Caribbean heritage
Who in your family deserves the most credit for these recipes?
It’s shared credit. These recipes are generational and important to my family as a whole; I coudln’t possibly choose.
As a two time business owner, what was the inspiration for this current venture?
This venture is actually very personal to me. Growing up in Barbados, families use food as a way to share stories and pass traditions along. Samosas were at the heart of every one of those gatherings; savoury, delicious and oh so comforting. Making this kind of food was the best way to bridge those cultures and I want to share that culture, one samosa at a time.
Could you walk us through the menu?
It’s the diversity of Indian street food with local Barbadian flare. It all obviously comes down to the samosas; classic veggie, beef and chicken with an added saltfish samosa to incorporate our local cuisine. It doesn’t just stop at samosas, we have other famous treats like Pani Puri and a list of freshing drinks to beat the heat.
