DHAL PURI
This Caribbean classic is near and dear to my heart. Every culture has buttery, flaky baked good they’re proud of. This feature speaks about the perfect Indian and West African influence and collaboration; Dhal Puri.

Excerpt from article:
“ No, it’s not naan. This amazingly decadent, buttery, fluffy, flaky flatbread is the lesser known Caribbean cousin of the roti family, Dhal puri, and most superior of them all. That is a bit of a bold statement to make but I dare you not to challenge us on this until you’ve tried it for yourself. What makes dhal puri top of our dish list this fall is how it’s created; with chickpeas and a layering process that allows it to flake and soak up what’s left of whatever you may pair it with. This dish is high protein, vegan and can be made gluten free. Just like its relatives, naan and paratha, dhal puri is mostly paired with curries, rice and steamed vegetables. It is a true signifier of Indo- Caribbean culture and the brilliant fusion of both culinary worlds. As a West Indian living in Vancouver, this dish certainly cures the homesickness this fall. ”
