It all began with that ad on late night T.V. The kind you see watching reruns of your favourite shows way past your bedtime. From that sentence alone, a couple have already come to your mind. (“Got milk?”, the Budweiser frogs, “save 15% or more on car insurance”) The ad with that jingle you can’t get out of your head. The brand that inherited your loyalty; your grandmother’s favourite which became your mother’s favourite so of course it’s yours. The brand that reminds you of Christmas, so tightly woven in your traditions.
This is what it means to me to design with community, culture and relatability in mind. Gaining a strong foundation at The Barbados Community College along with an Associate Degree in Visual Arts at the age of 18 and continuing on to accomplish a Bachelor of Design at Emily Carr University in Vancouver, BC.
At both institutions I fostered an interest in graphic design and photography and harnessed skills to my specialise in Branding, Visual Design and Editorial. Wherever the next milestone will be, the vision remains the same and I hope to create something to make the brands I work with a part of other people’s traditions, the catchy ad-lib they can’t seem to shake or that one commercial that they never want to skip.
